“Cursed With Power” Author Lindsey Sablowski Rambles.

I think the title tells you what’s about to happen, so here’s Lindsey.

First off I want to thank Baird for allowing me to stop by on this blog. It’s great to be here on the Cursed With Power blog tour!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lindsey Sablowski. I’m a young adult author, and Cursed With Power is my new release that became available this month. Before I tell you more about the book, I should probably start with the summary.

Celestria Hale learns that she is one of the last living Dark magicians. Upon leaving her hometown, she searches for others like herself to find out what has happened to her kind. She meets Alaire, another Dark magician with a dangerously sinister past. Through their travels, Celestria and Alaire come face to face with their enemies. The White magicians plot against them, developing a conspiracy that will overtake the last of them. While struggling for survival, Celestria must also come to terms with her sister’s death. But is her sister dead? There’s no way out. The battle’s already begun, and only the most powerful force will prevail. Everyone shows a longing hunger in their eyes, but their greed for power is only the beginning of a war raging between darkness and light. With the war approaching to determine the fate of magicians, Celestria fears for her and Alaire’s existence. Destiny may find them, but will it be enough?

Usually the first question that comes to mind is “why write a story about Dark magicians?” What would, after all, interest me to write about them? Cursed With Power was started two years ago during the summer when I thought of something I had never done before. Before this book I had written about the “good” -or White, as they’re called in CWP-magicians, but too often in fantasy we are victims of believing that there is only one side of every story. Now I won’t tell you whether Dark magicians are good or evil because that’s actually something that you as the reader are able to decide for yourself. This story is told from Celestria’s point of view, and since she is a Dark magician you’ll see things are quite as they seem. However, you’ll also meet up with the White magicians throughout the journeys. Perhaps the true magic of a story is being able to decide for yourself whose side you’ll be teaming up with. After all, Celestria’s world is only starting to prepare for a war that may be unavoidable.

Since the book has only recently released, everyone who has purchased the book is either a) waiting for their copy to arrive or b) haven’t started reading it. It’s like standing on the edge of a cliff -and what a brutal comparison that is to make-but it’s just one of those moments where you don’t know what will happen. Regardless, CWP is my baby, and I truly hope that readers are able to enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing. This book has been on a long adventure; two years in the making, numerous rejections, and now that it’s finally published it’s been making journeys all across the world!

Even though this book is only beginning it’s adventure, the end is far from being in plain sight. I’ve already begun writing the sequel, Punished With Destiny. You can expect to be reading the second book hopefully within six months. I’ve put a strict deadline on myself, and I’d like to wrap up the book within six months so that it can release in March 2013. That month seems much closer than it actually is. Fortunately with winter break coming up soon, I’ll be able to take a break from college and work more on the sequel.

Before I go, I’d like to share some little personal favorites of fun facts of my own about Cursed With Power:
– Favorite character: Alaire Senceler
– Chapter that changed most significantly (from original up to publication): chapter 1
– Favorite chapter: chapter 21
– Least favorite character: Aldemund
– Random fact: The butterfly scene is probably the one scene that always remained the same (in major aspects) throughout all of the editing. The idea for it came to me during a dream.
– A character who will be returning for book #2: Leal Irvine
