My Silence Defines Me

I recorded a couple of my poems spoken in my voice for a friend, I then wrote this to say that I dislike the recordings, and that their’s are beautiful. It also ties into my view that I needn’t speak unless my voice needs to be heard.

My silence defines me

I hear your voice

Enchanting the words from the page

Penned by you or I

And I want to try

To make the words dance

And sing

And enchant

I know my voice could

Should be able to

If only I could find it

But it hides

It knows me better than I do

It knows that my silence

Is part of who I am

I am the silent shadow

Hiding in the darkness

From the lights

Escaping only as ink

Or pretty pixels on a screen

Read but not heard.

But you, you have a voice

It makes the pixels breath

And the ink live

And dance

Into ears

And minds

Far better than ink alone

Or pixels ever could.

My silence defines me.
